Audi Q5: Mid-size crossover from Ingolstadt

The Audi Q5 is a mid-size crossover that expanded the brand's lineup of off-road models, which already included the full-size Q7. The letter "Q" in the name indicates its crossover class, while the number "5" denotes the mid-size segment according to European classification.

Work on the model began in 2006. A year later, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the company presented the Cross Cabriolet quattro concept — a two-door convertible that previewed the new crossover. In 2009, Audi showed another prototype — the Q5 custom, which was closer to the production version and had a five-door station wagon body.

The world premiere of the Audi Q5 took place in 2009 at the Beijing Auto Show. The location was chosen deliberately: the company planned to assemble the model in China using CKD kits. Besides China and Germany, the car is also assembled in India and Malaysia. The Q5 is based on the MLP platform, which debuted on the A5 coupe. In 2010, a hybrid version, the Q5 hybrid, appeared. In 2012, production began of the diesel modification SQ5 with more powerful engines — this was the first "charged" "S" version in the brand's history, equipped with a diesel engine. The same year, the model underwent a minor facelift affecting the front and rear lights.

In Ukraine, the Audi Q5 has been sold since 2010. In 2012, the "charged" version SQ5 appeared on the local market.

The standard version of the Audi Q5 is equipped with two gasoline engines (2.0 and 3.0 liters) and one diesel engine (3.0 liters). They work with a six-speed manual, an eight-speed automatic, or a seven-speed robotized gearbox. The SQ5 modification received a 3.0-liter diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drive — all-wheel drive.
