The oil filter is a mandatory component of the engine lubrication system. Its task is to filter out abrasive particles and metal shavings from the engine oil. During a scheduled oil change, it is extremely important to understand
where the oil filter is located, because if it is not replaced, the procedure loses its meaning. In this material, we will find out
where the oil filter is located on a number of popular models:
Ford Transit 2.2 diesel,
Nissan X-Trail,
Land Cruiser 200,
Skoda Fabia,
VAZ 2114, as well as
KamAZ.
Where is the oil filter located: general information
In the vast majority of cars, the
oil filter is located in the lower zone of the engine, near the oil pan. Structurally, it can be:
- Screw-on — a metal cylinder screwed into the engine block.
- Cartridge — a replaceable filter element inside a housing (plastic or metal) with a cover.
As a rule, to access the unit, the car must be raised on a lift or driven onto a ramp.
Where is the oil filter on Ford Transit 2.2 diesel
On the
Ford Transit 2.2 diesel (Duratorq engine), the oil filter is
located in the front lower part of the engine, on the passenger side, in close proximity to the radiator. It is a
cartridge element hidden in a plastic housing with a cover that is unscrewed with a wrench. Replacement procedure:
- remove the crankcase protection;
- find the vertically positioned plastic filter housing;
- carefully unscrew the cover and remove the old element.
Since a
cartridge is used, it is important to install the new part correctly and not overtighten the cover.
Where is the oil filter on Nissan X-Trail
On the
Nissan X-Trail (especially on petrol versions 2.0 and 2.5), the oil filter is
mounted on the side of the engine, shifted towards the right wheel (in the direction of travel). It is a
screw-on filter in a metal housing. Access options:
- from under the car;
- from the wheel arch side, after removing the plastic fender liner;
- a special puller will be needed to unscrew it, since the filter is often tightened firmly.
On diesel versions of the X-Trail, the location may shift — sometimes the filter is installed closer to the rear of the engine.
Where is the oil filter on Land Cruiser 200
On the
Land Cruiser 200 (diesel 4.5 or petrol 4.6), the
oil filter is located in the front part of the engine, closer to the middle of the underhood space. On diesel engines, a
cartridge scheme is used, hidden by a plastic housing. Key points:
- the filter is vertical;
- to access it, you need to remove the upper plastic engine cover;
- before removing the filter, you need to drain the oil through a special valve to avoid spilling it.
Where the oil filter is on the Land Cruiser 200 is well known to owners, because the procedure requires care and special tools.
Where is the oil filter on Skoda Fabia
On the
Skoda Fabia (in particular, with 1.2, 1.4 MPI and TSI engines), the oil filter is
mounted in the upper part of the engine, on its front side. This solution provides easy access and allows the filter to be changed
without a lift. A
cartridge in a plastic housing is used. What to do:
- open the hood;
- find the filter housing (usually black);
- unscrew the cover and replace the cartridge.
This is one of the easiest options to maintain.
Where is the oil filter on VAZ 2114
On the
VAZ 2114, the oil filter is
located on the right side of the engine, near the front mount, close to the exhaust manifold. It is of the
screw-on type with a metal housing. Access:
- most convenient from below, through an inspection pit;
- sometimes the filter is visible from above, but it is easier to remove it from below.
No special equipment is required for replacement, although a puller may be useful when removing the old filter.
KamAZ oil filter: where is it located
On the
KamAZ, the oil purification system is more complex. Oil filters are
installed on the side of the cylinder block, and there are several of them — for preliminary and fine purification. Design features:
- the filters are collapsible, made in metal housings;
- often equipped with drain valves;
- maintenance requires disassembling the housings and replacing the filter inserts.
Specialists know exactly
where the oil filter is on the KamAZ, since proper access to it directly affects engine longevity. Now you know
where the oil filter is located on models such as the
Ford Transit 2.2 diesel,
Nissan X-Trail,
Land Cruiser 200,
Skoda Fabia,
VAZ 2114, and
KamAZ. Knowing the location of the filter will allow you to save on service and monitor the condition of the engine. Regular replacement of the oil and filter element is a guarantee of stable engine operation over a long period. If you are not confident in your skills, this operation should be entrusted to qualified specialists.
