What is a VIN code and why is it needed
VIN code (Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique 17-character alphanumeric code assigned to each vehicle at the factory. It contains information about the make, model, engine type, country and year of manufacture, as well as the manufacturer. This code is necessary for vehicle identification and is used for registration, insurance, customs clearance, sale, and also for checking the car's history. It is important to understand that the VIN code of a car is like a passport for the vehicle. It helps avoid buying a problematic car, shows data about its origin and, among other things, is used to find information about spare parts, original paint and other characteristics.
Where is the VIN code in the vehicle registration certificate in Ukraine?
If you are wondering where the VIN code is in the vehicle registration certificate, the answer is quite simple - in Ukraine, as in most other countries, the VIN is indicated in a specially designated field in the vehicle registration certificate. In Ukraine, the vehicle registration certificate can be of two types:
1. Paper vehicle registration certificate (old format)
In such documents, the VIN code of the car is usually located:
In the central part of the document;
In the section «Ідентифікаційний номер (VIN)» or «Ідентифікаційний номер транспортного засобу»;
It may be highlighted in bold and consist of 17 characters.
Often, next to the VIN, other vehicle characteristics are also indicated: chassis number, body number, engine type, power and year of manufacture.
2. Plastic registration certificate (new format)
In the modern vehicle registration certificate, which is made in the form of a plastic card (ID-card format), the VIN code is located:
On the front side, in the field marked E (Latin letter);
Below/above the license plate number;
The code is indicated in the same form - 17 characters (for example: XTA211340R1234567).
This format has been used in Ukraine since 2016, it is more convenient and reliable for everyday use.
How to recognize the VIN code in the vehicle registration certificate
If you are not sure whether you have found the right number, look for the following signs:
The VIN always contains 17 characters - it can be a combination of letters and numbers;
