Volkswagen Taigun: prices and specifications

1 generations Country of origin: Germany

Volkswagen Taigun is a crossover that is the smallest in the brand's SUV lineup, complementing the Tiguan and Touareg models. Its name comes from a rearrangement of the letters in the word Tiguan.

The German concern began developing this model after the compact crossover Nissan Juke appeared on the market. The success of the competitor forced Volkswagen to pay attention to it: the first sketches of the Taigun appeared in 2011, and a year later a test prototype was ready. The car was tested in South America. It was there, in Brazil, at the São Paulo Auto Show in October 2012, that the world premiere of the concept took place. Volkswagen planned to present the production version in 2014 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Sales of the car were supposed to start in 2015. By that time, it was planned to create two more mini-crossovers on its platform for the Skoda and Seat brands, which are part of the concern. Despite its modest dimensions, the car turned out to be practical: functional roof rails are installed on the roof, and the trunk volume is 280 liters (987 liters with the rear seats folded).

Under the hood of the Taigun concept was a modernized three-cylinder turbo engine with a volume of 1.0 liter — the same as in the compact hatchback Up!. It worked with a six-speed manual transmission. Drive — front.
