Japanese automaker Nissan Motor has announced that it will no longer create new internal combustion engines on a global scale, except for the US market. According to the publication, the company intends to focus all its efforts on developing electric vehicles in the future.

To date, Nissan has already abandoned the creation of new powertrains for the European market. Following this, it plans to stop such work in Japan and China. As for the US, the company will continue to design gasoline internal combustion engines on a limited basis. The reason for this step is the specifics of local demand: pickup trucks, which are in high demand among Americans, are not yet planned to be equipped with electric motors.

In addition, Nissan does not intend to curtail the development of engines for hybrid vehicles. The Japanese also assured that they will not close their factories, and workers will retain their jobs.
