Two schoolchildren from Germany came up with a way to use rainwater. Daniel and Lara Kron put together their own project: they attached a micro pump with a filter to a toy model of the Ford Focus RS. With this work, they won a children's competition.

Ford engineers refined this idea and applied it to the Ford S-MAX minivan. Such a system can fill a tank with water in five minutes during heavy rain.

Ford has already had similar experiments with water. In 2016, the company showed the On-the-go H2O project, which turns condensate into drinking water.
