Starting from 2016, Euro NCAP will expand its test program with a new test designed to check the effectiveness of automatic braking systems.

For this purpose, a special rack structure will be installed in the path of the car, along which a dummy will move. This scheme will make it possible to reproduce scenarios when a pedestrian and a car are in dangerous proximity. The robotic pedestrian will be able to cross the road at different speeds — from a leisurely walk to a swift run. In addition, the program includes modeling the sudden appearance of a child from behind a car parked at the roadside.

The final safety rating of the vehicle will directly depend on how correctly the "smart" electronics respond to the emerging threat.
