The head of Mercedes-Benz research and development division, Thomas Weber, shared the company's plans.
The new model, known under the code name X-Class, will not compete with the brand's most compact crossover to date — the GLA.
Despite the fact that some of the powertrains will likely be borrowed from the GLA, these cars will occupy different positions in the market. The X-Class will be about 30 cm shorter in length and will be inferior in dimensions in other parameters.
Serial production of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class will begin no earlier than 2016.
