The key to the new Golf Estate's appeal is its increased size: it is 4.63 m long, making it 66 mm longer than the previous generation's Mk7 Golf estate. However, its width and height remain unchanged.
The increased length is concentrated in the wheelbase, providing an increase in maximum rear legroom of 38 mm. The trunk is also larger than before, though only by 6 liters with the rear seats up (to 611 liters) and 22 liters with the seats folded (to 1642 liters). The trunk itself is equipped with bag hooks and 12V and 230V power outlets in some trims, as well as an electrically retractable tow bar.

Volkswagen claims that the exterior design "stands out with charisma." The Estate's roof slopes downward towards the rear. The steeply raked rear window, as well as the unique design of the rear lights and tailgate, further distinguish it from hatchbacks.
Standard equipment includes all-wheel drive 4Motion, and the company has not announced engines for the new models.
