The price reduction is intended to make the model more attractive against competitors among inexpensive Chinese electric cars. During 2024, Volkswagen's car sales in China fell by 10%, and the company explains this by "fierce price competition" in the local market.

It is indicative that in China, the Volkswagen ID.4 X costs twice as cheap as in Germany, where the starting price of the base version is from 40,335 euros. However, it should be noted that cars for the Chinese and European markets differ significantly: their batteries and a number of other elements are not interchangeable.

The initial modification of the Volkswagen ID.4 X, which is called Smart, received an electric motor with a power of 170 hp, located on the rear axle, and a battery of 52.8 kWh, which provides a range of 425 km according to the CLTC cycle. The Long Range version, which is offered from $24,200, develops 231 hp and has a battery of 80.2 kWh, thanks to which the range reaches 601 km.

It is also worth mentioning that the ID.4 became the best-selling new electric car in Ukraine in 2024. A significant part of such cars is imported unofficially, precisely from China.
