Platform and dimensions of Volkswagen Passat B9

There is some data about the car itself. The model will still be based on the MQB platform, but there will be some surprises. First, the car will lose the sedan body – instead, the Germans will offer it in liftback and wagon versions. Second, the car will significantly increase in size: if the wheelbase of the Passat B7 is 2.79 m, then for the B8 it will grow to a huge 2.85 m. Thanks to this, there will be more space in the cabin (especially in the legs of rear passengers), and the trunk volume will also increase. In general, for the new Passat, the concepts of versatility and practicality will become a priority.

Engines of Volkswagen Passat B9

It is also known that the Passat B9 will have an electric counterpart (neither the name nor characteristics are known yet), but it will only be offered in a wagon body. But the Passat itself will remain faithful to classic units: petrol TSI and even diesel TDI (with a volume of 2.0 liters, power from 148 to 197 hp), despite the fact that the popularity of heavy-fuel units in the business-class car segment has declined in recent years. In addition, the range will include a couple of hybrid setups – one classic, the other plug-in (such a car will get the traditional name Passat GTE). On electric power alone, the plug-in hybrid will be able to travel up to 96 km, and its power will be 242 hp.

Design of Volkswagen Passat B9

What appearance the new product will get is not yet known, but AutoExpress has prepared renders of the possible look of the model (they are presented in this note). So, if our colleagues are right, then in profile the new Passat will retain the features of the current model, but at the front and rear it will be made in the style of the latest Touareg and Golf.

American Passat

With the change of generations, the Passat family will become more modest. Earlier, Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter officially announced that in 2023 the company will completely stop production of the American version of the model. That is, the American Passat B8 will be the last. This will end the history of the model.

Production of Volkswagen Passat

Finally, it is known that with the change of generations, the model will change its place of production. Currently, the European Passat is produced at the plant in Emden, Germany, but this enterprise is needed by the manufacturer for the production of electric vehicles, so the bestseller will be forced to move to Bratislava, Slovakia. By the way, there it will be accompanied by the Touareg.

By the way, let us remind you that after a long break, Volkswagen Passat officially returned to the Ukrainian market.
