For the new sales season, the car received modified bumpers, a new radiator grille (supplemented with LED strips), as well as new headlights (now adaptive IQ.Light optics) and rear lights (a glowing bridge appeared). The changed body panels led to the Chinese Passat growing in length by 20 mm. The overall dimensions of the car are now 4953 x 1836 x 1469 mm, with a wheelbase of 2871 mm.

The car is still based on the MQB platform, with three engines announced – petrol 1.4 TSI (150 hp) and 2.0 TSI (186 and 220 hp), all paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Separately, the model is presented in a hybrid version, which has its own front bumper with large LED inserts. Such a car is equipped with a combination of a petrol 1.4 TSI and an electric motor, which together produce 211 hp and 400 Nm. The gearbox is a six-speed DSG. Drive in all cases is all-wheel drive.

The updated Passat's equipment includes LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, a parking assistance system, a digital instrument panel, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen.

Production of the new model will start at the SAIC-Volkswagen plant (in China) in the near future, with sales in the summer. Prices have not yet been announced, but the pre-reform car is currently offered for $29,000.
