The Volkswagen Golf R Variant will get the same powertrain as the Golf R hot hatch: a two-liter turbo engine with 320 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox. The sprint to 100 km/h will take less than five seconds, and the electronics will limit the top speed to 250 or 270 km/h.

The wagon will get an all-wheel drive system and an electronic differential lock. The suspension will be recalibrated, with adaptive dampers and larger brake mechanisms: 360-millimeter discs at the front and 310-millimeter at the rear.

As befits "hot" Volkswagen models, the exterior will remain restrained. The R Variant can be distinguished by a unique radiator grille, neat body kit, four exhaust tips, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior will feature sport seats.
Sales of the Volkswagen Golf R Variant will start in the fall. The price of the wagon will exceed 50 thousand euros.
