According to information shared by the Spanish publication Coche Spias, the Mazda CX-50 crossover will be built on the platform that will underpin the fourth-generation Mazda 6. The new "six" is planned to use the modular Large Architecture with rear-wheel drive, which means that the initial versions of the CX-50 crossover will also have a rear-wheel drive layout.

As for dimensions, the Mazda CX-50 will occupy an intermediate position between the CX-5 and CX-9. The base version of the crossover will be equipped with a 2.5 SkyActiv-G gasoline engine producing 190 hp, paired with a mild hybrid system. For the top trim, a three-liter SkyActiv-X engine with 285 hp will be offered, as well as a 3.3-liter diesel engine with similar output.

In addition, it is expected that the Mazda CX-50 will get a completely new eight-speed automatic transmission.
