The appearance of the new Mazda 6 will apparently undergo serious changes — the car will get a coupe-style body, reminiscent of the Vision Coupe Concept (pictured), which debuted in 2017 at the Tokyo Motor Show.

In addition, the Mazda 6 lineup may for the first time include a two-door modification, which may be given the RX index — in honor of the brand's famous rotary models.

The future "six" will be based on a new modular architecture that assumes a longitudinal installation of the powertrain and transmission. The flagship version will be equipped with an inline six-cylinder engine using Skyactiv-X technology with compression ignition of the working mixture. The engine will be paired with a 48-volt starter-generator along with additional batteries. The top modification will also include all-wheel drive.

According to preliminary data, the official premiere of the new generation Mazda 6 will take place at the end of 2022.
