The name Taigun was first used for a small concept car 3.85 meters long, shown in 2012. At the same time, the length of the production crossover was 4.2 meters, and the wheelbase is 2.65 meters. The car, built on the modular MQB-A0 platform, will share most of its components and units with the new Skoda crossover, which debuted at the same exhibition.

The company noted that the Volkswagen Taigun received special suspension settings adapted to the peculiarities of Indian roads. The ground clearance of the car is 205 millimeters.
The Volkswagen Taigun received a 1.5-liter 130-horsepower gasoline "turbo-four" with a function for deactivating some cylinders under low loads. It is possible that the model will be available with a three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1 liter and a power of 115 horsepower, as well as with a unit running on natural gas.
Transmissions are a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-range "robot" with two clutches. The Volkswagen Taigun will be available exclusively with front-wheel drive.
