Rumors that the Korean automaker is working on a new crossover appeared back in November. During that period, Kia published a teaser image hinting at a premiere at the Los Angeles motor show. Many then assumed that it was about a special version of the existing Seltos crossover, but fresh information indicates that it will be a standalone model.

The Indian Autoblog portal reports that the manufacturer has filed an application to register the Sonet trademark — likely under this name the new model will be released. According to available information, a concept version of the car will be presented at the Auto Expo in New Delhi, starting in February 2020. It is expected that the production version will retain the design of the show car almost unchanged.

The car is planned to be assembled at an Indian plant, but the sales geography will not be limited to this country. Journalists found out that the trademark is registered not only for the domestic market, but also for the countries of the Middle East, as well as the Asia-Pacific region. The technical basis for the SUV will be a platform already used in the compact Hyundai Venue crossover.
