Mercedes-Benz CEO Dieter Zetsche has stated that the G-Class SUV will not be discontinued, but instead will receive a fully electric version. Previously, the company seriously considered dropping this model, but now plans have changed. According to the head, this is the last car the concern would want to say goodbye to.
The electric G-Class will be part of the eco-friendly EQ family. The German automaker has allocated 10 billion euros for the development of this direction. Already in 2022, the company plans to introduce at least ten models equipped with powertrains that do not harm the environment.
It is worth noting that an electric version of the G-Class already exists. True, it was created not by Mercedes-Benz, but by the Austrian company Kreisel Electric. One of the first such SUVs was handed over to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
