According to one hypothesis, the new-generation Touareg R will be equipped with a two-liter petrol engine paired with an electric motor. A similar modification is already available on the Chinese market and is officially announced for European countries. In China, the power of the hybrid powertrain of the crossover reaches 362 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. As Autocar notes, for the R version this figure will likely be raised to 400 horsepower.
Another version suggests that Volkswagen may use units from the Audi Q7 60 TFSIe — a three-liter V6, which together with an electric motor develops 448 horsepower.
