Tesla has decided on the production location for its new electric crossover Model Y. Assembly of the car will begin in September 2020 at the plant in California, reports Paultan. Later, production of compact Tesla crossovers will be established at a new enterprise in China, which will be called Gigafactory 3.
The official premiere of the new product took place in mid-March at the design studio of the American brand in Los Angeles. The crossover borrowed the existing chassis from the Tesla Model 3. The Model Y received two electric motors and is offered with battery packs of various capacities. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 3.5 seconds (top version Performance). The range is 480 km (for the Long Range version). The maximum speed is 240 km/h.

The design of the model resembles the Model 3. The crossover received traditional side mirrors instead of cameras. Also, Tesla engineers decided to abandon the use of the signature rear doors, which the company calls "falcon wings." According to Elon Musk, this decision complicates the car production process. The drag coefficient is 0.32. The crossover received a short front overhang and a panoramic roof.
In addition to the standard version, the crossover will be offered in a seven-seat configuration. The car's interior features a large 15-inch touchscreen display that controls most of the Model Y's functions. The driver has access to advanced safety systems and an autonomous driving system.
