Volkswagen has taken on the creation of a new compact crossover, which is yet to get a name. As WardsAuto reports citing an informed source, the debut of this model will take place in the second half of 2021, and it should reach dealerships in 2022.
The assembly of the new model will apparently be organized in the north of Spain, in Pamplona. It will be based on the MQB architecture. According to unofficial data, the car will borrow many units and components from the new Polo and the T-Cross crossover. The exterior is expected to feature motifs from the Taigun concept, which was shown back in 2008 at the Brazilian exhibition.
The engine lineup includes a hybrid powertrain and a fully electric version. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed other technical details. It seems that this model will become the smallest crossover in the lineup of the German brand.
Let us remind you that earlier there was information that Volkswagen would release a production version of the Taigun prototype in 2020. At the same time, it was said that the car would get the name T-Track and have a length of about 3.8 meters.
As for Russia, the closest premiere of the brand should be the updated Passat of the eighth generation. Its sales are scheduled for December of this year. The restyled sedan was shown in February at a closed event in Hamburg. It is based on the MQB platform. For our market, a 2.0 TSI petrol engine with 190 horsepower, as well as a 1.4-liter TSI unit with 150 horsepower, are provided. In addition, a two-liter diesel will also appear.
