The new generation of the model has hit the production lines at the plant in Leipzig, where cars of the previous two generations were previously assembled.

The new "one" is based on the modular FAAR platform with a transversely mounted engine and front-wheel drive, which replaced the previous longitudinal layout with a driven rear axle. This chassis is already familiar from the BMW X1 and X2 crossovers, as well as the MINI Countryman.

It is expected that over the coming months the plant will produce up to six hundred cars per day. The first car to roll off the assembly line was a 118i hatchback with a petrol engine, a blue body, and a sport styling package. This example will be sent to a customer from Italy.
