The new model can be distinguished from the previous version by the front bumper, the larger fake radiator grille, and the optics (now fully LED). The new headlights are called Skoda Crystal Lighting — they consist of four LED elements, have dynamic turn signals, and separate LED strips responsible for the animated "Follow Me Home" function.
There are more chrome elements on the dashboard, console, and door panels, the seat upholstery has changed, and in higher trim levels, contrasting stitching of leather and suede elements is used. Keyless entry is now standard, and in the top Laurin & Klement trim, front seats can be equipped with ventilation and massage functions.
The onboard driver assistance systems have also been updated. The Superb now uses a multi-stage collision prevention system, and the navigation monitors speed limits using a front camera and adjusts the driving mode depending on the terrain. In an emergency, the electronics can independently park the car on the roadside using data from the radars of the lane keeping and side traffic systems.
The base engine for the updated Skoda Superb is a 120-horsepower 1.6 TDI diesel paired with a 7-speed DSG. One step up are new two-liter diesels with outputs of 150 and 190 hp with a 6-speed manual or the same DSG, with the more powerful one available with optional all-wheel drive. The gasoline engine range opens with a 1.5 TSI engine producing 150 hp with a manual or DSG, followed by a two-liter engine in versions with 190 and 272 horsepower, the latter only with all-wheel drive and DSG.
In addition to the traditional versions, the flagship for the first time in its history received a hybrid modification under its own name Superb iV. The car is equipped with a 156-horsepower 1.4 TSI gasoline engine and an electric motor with an output of 85 kW, and the maximum power of the installation is 218 hp. A battery with a capacity of 13 kWh allows driving up to 55 kilometers on electric power. The charge can be replenished from a household outlet, and the maximum range reaches 850 kilometers.
The hybrid is equipped with a sound generator so that pedestrians and cyclists can hear the car moving in quiet electric mode in advance. In addition, it is the hybrid that will receive a trailer parking assist function and a surround view system. Like other versions, the hybrid model will appear on the markets before the end of this year.
