The model will be built on the modular MQB-A0 architecture, the same one used in the new Polo and the Virtus sedan intended for the South American market (also known as the Polo Sedan). According to available information, the Volkswagen T-Sport, which will occupy a niche one step below the T-Cross, will be equipped with a three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a displacement of 1 liter and an output of 115 horsepower.
There is also a proposed variant with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine producing about 120 horsepower. These engines will be paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, the most compact crossover in the Volkswagen lineup remains the T-Cross, which debuted in October 2018.
