Pavise, or pavis, is a large shield up to 70 cm wide and up to one and a half meters high, which was widely used by infantry in the 14th-16th centuries. It is believed that the name of the shield comes from the Italian city of Pavia, where it was invented.

Some media suggest that the name Pavise may be given to a crossover, a pickup truck, and even a coupe-like version of an existing model. In addition, a concept with advanced electronic assistants may be called a "shield".
