The model has acquired flashing beacons on the front and additional body protection. It differs from the current version of the Ford Explorer crossover with new optics and a modified radiator grille. The Police Interceptor is also equipped with upgraded brakes, steel wheels, and a special blind spot monitoring technology. In addition, the driver has access to an emergency braking system and a pedestrian recognition function.
For protection, the police Explorer is equipped with a special system called Police Perimeter Alert. Using special sensors, the technology monitors the surroundings of the car and, in case of a threat, will instantly warn the officers about it, as well as lock the doors and raise the windows.

In the Interceptor's interior, front seats with special plates are installed, which protect the officer from a knife strike or a shot from behind.
The Ford Police Interceptor is available with a three-liter EcoBoost V6 turbo engine. The crossover is also equipped with a 3.3 V6 engine. Finally, the police Explorer received a hybrid powertrain, which includes a 3.3-liter unit, an electric motor, and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, the Ford Explorer is the most popular police car in the United States — in 2017, this crossover accounted for more than half of all orders from American law enforcement agencies.
