Ford plans to unveil the new generation of the Explorer crossover on January 9 at a closed event on the eve of the Detroit auto show.
The sixth-generation Explorer will be based on the new modular CD6 architecture, developed specifically for rear-wheel-drive vehicles. Most of the crossover's body elements will be made of steel.
In addition, according to unofficial information, the same platform will also underpin a completely new Lincoln model, which will stand out from the Explorer with a more premium level of trim.
