The restyled model received a new 2.5-liter gasoline turbo engine with four cylinders. The unit's power is 230 hp. The engine works in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission. The same engine is already equipped in the Mazda CX-9 and Mazda 6.

Also, the CX-5 is equipped with an upgraded G-Vectoring Control (GVC) system, which is designed to improve the car's handling and stability. The technology constantly monitors how much the steering wheel is turned, whether the accelerator pedal is pressed, and how fast the car is moving. Based on the information received, the system can reduce torque, which provides additional load on the front axle. Thanks to this, the tire contact patches increase, and the car handles corners better.
