The automotive publication Autocar, citing a statement by the head of Volkswagen's North American division, Heinrich Woebcken, reports on the company's possible plans.

"Such a model could fit well into our lineup, as we strive to strengthen our position in the American market. However, it is important to act carefully here: we are talking about a segment where buyers show high loyalty to domestic brands, and they dominate there," Woebcken noted.

The Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak pickup debuted in the spring of 2018 at the New York Auto Show. Its basis was the platform used for the large Atlas crossover. The length of the new model was 5436 mm, which is 381 mm more than the Atlas. The width of the car exceeded two meters, and the height reached 1829 mm. Engineers increased the wheelbase by 280 mm, bringing it to 3251 mm.

Under the hood of the concept is a 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine producing 280 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque. The unit is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system, which provides several modes for off-road driving. Acceleration to 96 km/h takes the Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak 8.5 seconds.
