The two-liter atmospheric Skyactiv-G engine increased its power from 160 to 184 horsepower, and peak torque grew from 200 to 205 Nm. Also, the engine can now rev up to 7500 rpm, while the previous version's red zone started at 6800 rpm. Company representatives stated that after the modifications, the unit acquired a "more noble voice."
There is no information yet on the roadster's speed performance. For comparison, the car with the previous 160-horsepower engine accelerated to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and reached a top speed of 214 km/h.
Mazda added that the 1.5-liter MX-5 engine was also upgraded, but its parameters were not disclosed. Recall that the standard version of this unit produces 131 hp and 150 Nm, thanks to which the roadster reached 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
The European version of the Mazda MX-5 now includes a traffic sign recognition system, a rearview camera, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Sales of the updated roadster are scheduled to start in August 2018.
