The two-seat Mercedes-AMG GT sports car has been joined by an elegant hatchback with the same name. The five-door GT is based on the new-generation CLS sedan, which in turn is built on the modular MRA platform.
The hatchback's interior combines elements from the CLS and the two-door GT. The rear seat can be ordered in either a three-seat or two-seat configuration.
The base Mercedes-AMG GT 53 is powered by a three-liter turbo engine producing 435 hp and 520 Nm. Paired with the 9-speed AMG Speedshift TCT 9G automatic transmission, the engine accelerates the model to 285 km/h, reaching 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
The more powerful GT 63 version boasts a 585-hp V8 delivering 800 Nm. Its top speed is 310 km/h, with a 0-100 km/h sprint of 3.4 seconds.
The top-of-the-line GT 63 S not only features a more powerful version of the four-liter V8 (639 hp and 900 Nm) but also a drift mode. Its dynamic performance is almost supercar-like: 3.2 seconds to 100 km/h and a top speed of 315 km/h.
All versions of the model come with all-wheel drive, six driving modes (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, and Individual), and four stability control settings (Basic, Advanced, Pro, and Master).
Sales of the Mercedes-AMG GT hatchback will start in the summer. Prices have not yet been announced.
