So far, conclusions about the design of the new Auris can only be drawn from a low-information teaser, but the manufacturer has already shared some technical details.
The third generation Auris will be presented immediately in a hybrid version, equipped with an updated THS II 2.0 power unit. The modernized system includes a new two-liter Dynamic Force Engine, producing 146 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque, paired with a more compact electric motor.
Also, the Auris will debut a new Direct Shift-CVT transmission, combining a continuously variable transmission with a traditional automatic. When starting from a standstill, the so-called "launch" gear is activated, providing more energetic acceleration, after which the CVT smoothly takes over.
Thus, the new gearbox from Toyota is essentially a one-speed automatic working in conjunction with a standard CVT.
Full technical specifications and complete photos of the third generation Toyota Auris will appear later — they should be expected by the premiere in Geneva.
