The published teaser reveals almost no details, and the only thing that catches the eye is the absence of side mirrors, which are unlikely to disappear in the production version.
The company's CEO Elon Musk said that the crossover will not use the platform developed for the affordable Model 3 sedan — a separate platform will be created for it. Also, the production of the Model Y will be organized at an independent enterprise.
The crossover's premiere is scheduled for next year, but sales are expected to start no earlier than 2019.
