According to Autobild, the new model will be based on the seventh series, but the 9-Series will get a longer wheelbase. The design of the model will be made similar to the BMW Vision Future Luxury concept, which was presented at the Beijing Auto Show in 2014. The car's premiere will take place in 2020.

The sedan's engine range will include a 6.6-liter V12 gasoline engine. The unit's power will exceed 600 horsepower. In addition, the 9-Series will be equipped with a hybrid powertrain. It will include a gasoline engine with six cylinders. Later, the new model will get "charged" versions M960i or M9.

Also in 2020, BMW plans to revive the 8-Series coupe. The car is positioned as a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. In the model range of the German brand, the new model will replace the BMW 6-Series Coupe and Convertible.

It is possible that some design elements of the future car will resemble the Pininfarina Gran Lusso concept, presented two years ago. The prototype, which was worked on by several studios at once, was built on the basis of the flagship 7-Series sedan. It was assumed that the model would become the most luxurious and expensive in the BMW lineup, but it never went into production.
