"For the next year, we can confirm Vesta Cross and XRAY Cross, but with front-wheel drive, not all-wheel drive. There will be no all-wheel drive version of the XRAY Cross at the end of 2016," said Sergei Ilyinsky, head of AvtoVAZ's press service, to Izvestia. Thus, the Cross will differ only in plastic body kit and roof rails.
The reason for abandoning all-wheel drive at AvtoVAZ is not stated. Possibly, it is related to optimizing production costs, as well as the appearance in 2018 of a compact crossover with increased off-road capability, whose name is not yet known.
