The car is built on the basis of the 2015 Mazda MX-5. Externally, the Fiat 124 differs significantly from its Japanese platform sibling. The model became the first roadster in the Fiat lineup after a 10-year break.
Inside, there are minimal differences
As for the chassis, there are no particular differences either, but the engines are different. The Mazda has naturally aspirated engines, while the Fiat has a turbocharged 1.4-liter unit from the hot hatch Fiat 500 Abarth. The drive is rear-wheel. The gearbox is automatic or manual with 6 speeds. The dynamic characteristics of the roadster are not yet known.
It should be noted that initially the Italians planned to produce the joint car with Mazda under the Alfa Romeo brand, but later changed their decision. In the USA, the first 124 examples of the Fiat 124 Spider will be sold in a limited edition Prima Edizione Lusso. Each of them will receive an individual serial number from the limited run of 124 units.
