First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department Oleksii Biloshytskyi said that the main cause of most accidents with severe consequences is speeding. This year, inspectors issued almost half a million fines using TruCAM devices, and stationary cameras recorded approximately three million cases of violations. As a result, 3.5 million drivers were brought to administrative responsibility.

"Speeding caused 41% of accidents in which people were killed or injured," Biloshytskyi noted. He also admitted that the current punishment of a 340 hryvnia fine (or half that amount if paid within ten days) is not strict enough and does not correspond to the degree of danger to society.

A draft law No. 13314 has already been registered in parliament, which provides for a review of fines and the elimination of the possibility of exceeding the speed limit by up to 20 km/h without punishment. The new fine scale looks like this:
– over 10 km/h – 340 UAH;
– over 20 km/h – 680 UAH;
– over 30 km/h – 1,360 UAH;
– over 40 km/h – 1,700 UAH;
– over 60 km/h – 2,720 UAH;
– over 80 km/h – 3,400 UAH.

In addition to monetary sanctions, for exceeding the speed limit that caused an emergency situation, it is planned to punish by deprivation of driving license for a period from six months to one year.

Earlier, at the beginning of 2025, there was information about possible automatic fines for driving without an insurance policy, but the police denied this information, explaining that there are no legislative grounds for such control.
