The active spread of electric vehicles in Ukraine could prompt domestic companies to create their own charging stations. The head of the Ministry of Infrastructure has instructed a working group to formulate its proposals on this issue by the end of January 2017.

According to a statement by the CEO of Renault Ukraine, Yana Minenko, made on December 22 at a round table in the ministry, the abolition of value-added tax on the import of new electric vehicles could reduce their price for Ukrainian buyers by 4-5 thousand euros.

Minenko emphasized that the design of electric cars is simple: their motors have significantly fewer components compared to internal combustion engines, making maintenance of such vehicles easier and cheaper. The main advantage, in her words, is the savings from not using gasoline and other petroleum products.

She also reminded that the Verkhovna Rada has already decided to abolish customs duties on the import of electric vehicles, but their cost still significantly exceeds the price of conventional cars and starts from 30 thousand euros. For comparison, in Europe similar models are even more expensive, but there part of the purchase costs is compensated by government programs.

The outcome of the round table was an instruction from Volodymyr Omelyan to the working group to prepare a package of legislative initiatives by the end of January 2017. The minister noted that the parliament is ready for dialogue, so it is important to develop specific proposals.
