AvtoPortal previously reported that Petro Poroshenko approved the law providing for a reduction in excise duties on used cars, but the signing took place taking into account a number of adjustments.
In the final version of the document, taking into account the presidential amendments, the following restrictions are provided:
- Simplified customs clearance conditions apply if, during the period of the law's validity, one citizen imports no more than one vehicle.
- The import of a car into the territory of Ukraine for personal use must be carried out directly by the buyer himself, who will subsequently become its owner.
- After registration of a car imported at reduced excise rates, its sale is prohibited.
- The law does not apply to vehicles manufactured in a state recognized as an occupier or aggressor. At the moment, Russia is among such countries.
The updated rules will come into effect from August 2016 and will expire after December 31, 2018.
