The relevant parliamentary committee, which deals with legislative support for law enforcement activities, has already given the green light to this bill.
As reported by AUTO-Consulting, the people's deputies want to introduce a fine for drunk drivers of up to 600 tax-free minimums, which amounts to 10,200 hryvnias, as well as deprive them of their driver's license for a period of one year.
If within two years a motorist is caught again for a similar violation, they face a fine of 1,200 minimums (20,400 hryvnias) and loss of license for three years. If caught a third time, the amount will increase to 2,400 minimums, and the license revocation period will be ten years.
The initiators of the bill believe that tougher penalties will improve accident statistics and deter many from getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
