Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev approved a document obliging car owners in annexed Crimea to undergo the vehicle re-registration procedure before April 1, 2016.
The Russian Cabinet explained that this measure is aimed at bringing order to the issue of allowing vehicles to participate in road traffic, as well as ensuring their identification during operation. In addition, it should help complete the creation of a basis for charging transport tax from vehicle owners.
If a car with Ukrainian license plates is on the territory of the peninsula for more than 90 days, its owner faces a fine of 1,500 to 2,500 rubles. Confiscation of the vehicle is possible as an additional punishment.
