At an extraordinary session, the State Council of Crimea approved a draft resolution simplifying vehicle registration. According to the new document, the simplified procedure will apply to cars and motorcycles leased before March 18, 2014, and registered in Ukraine under the lessor, as well as to vehicles owned before that date under a power of attorney issued in the Ukrainian legal framework.
The simplification will also affect new cars whose ownership rights were recorded after March 18, provided they were purchased through Ukrainian dealer networks for specific customers or on prepayment terms under supply contracts concluded under Ukrainian law.
Registration and issuance of registration documents will be handled by traffic police units.
The chairman of the budget committee of the Crimean parliament, Vitaly Nakhlupin, presenting the initiative, explained that for registering cars brought to Crimea after March 18, a vehicle passport issued by Russian customs authorities is required, provided there is a customs declaration confirming payment of VAT, duties, and other mandatory payments. Due to the peculiarities of Russian legislation, difficulties arose in re-registering 7,000 cars owned by residents of the republic, and it is precisely this issue that the adopted document is designed to resolve.
In Crimea, the car registration procedure has been simplified
The procedure has been simplified for those residents of the peninsula who have changed Ukrainian citizenship to Russian. The simplified scheme will be in effect while the transition period is in force in the republic.
