The rivalry between the three leading German premium brands — Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW — has been going on for years. If Mercedes and BMW are waging their 'war' rather by inertia, since each brand has its own loyal audience, the manufacturer from Ingolstadt is clearly aiming to win over customers from both giants at once.
Recently, on one of the busiest highways in California, Santa Monica Boulevard, a billboard was installed featuring the Audi A4 with the caption 'Your move, BMW'.
The Bavarians did not keep them waiting and soon placed their own billboard near the competitor's ad, showing the M3 model with the laconic inscription 'Checkmate'.
One can only guess why the Bavarians' response turned out to be so weighty — the Audi A4, even in the S-Line version, can hardly be called a direct rival to the BMW M3. Probably the reason is that the current Audi lineup lacks the RS4.
