A German car blogger drove 2398 km in a 1998 Volkswagen Passat B5 without refueling. The diesel station wagon with a 1.9 TDI engine started in Hildesheim and reached the Arctic Circle in Sweden. This is reported by car blogger Roma Urraco.

Before the start, the Volkswagen Passat B5 was prepared for maximum fuel-efficient driving. The roof rails and antenna were removed from the wagon, the filters were replaced, special engine oil was poured in, and a fuel additive was added.
The car received Michelin Energy Saver tires with increased pressure, and the wheels were covered with aerodynamic caps. About 67 liters of diesel fuel were poured into the tank, after first removing air from it.
The route ran through Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. The driver mostly maintained 70-80 km/h, avoided intense acceleration, and often drove behind trucks. Average fuel consumption was about 3 l/100 km.

The fuel reserve indicator came on at about 2090 km, but the Volkswagen Passat B5 continued moving. The wagon reached the Arctic Circle and covered a few more kilometers before finally stopping.
