Even 20 and even 10 years ago, a CD player was the most optimal way to transmit audio and video materials, but since then everything has changed: now the Internet reigns in cars.

So, as reported by GM Authority, the General Motors concern is reducing the line of cars equipped with a CD/DVD player every year. In particular, in 2019, the American giant removed the CD slot from passenger cars back in 2019, and in 2020 it also "went through" SUVs – Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade.

Now it's the turn of commercial vehicles – "the last of the Mohicans." Currently, the CD/DVD player is available only for Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans, as well as for medium-duty trucks Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty and Chevrolet Low Car Forward. However, already in August, this equipment element will turn from standard to a paid option (for $150), and in 2022 it will be completely removed from the specification list.

And how are things with other manufacturers? European brands have already followed the path of modern trends – so, CD players are no longer available on Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, Opel models. Volkswagen offers them only for some of its models, a similar situation is with American Ford, which is also gradually abandoning CD/DVD players.

But Japanese manufacturers are a different matter. Since the automotive industry of the Land of the Rising Sun is characterized by slower development rates of new models, CD/DVD players can still be found in Mazda cars and in almost all Suzuki and Mitsubishi models.

Another group of cars with the presence of outdated equipment is luxury class cars. Music lovers on CDs are still pampered by Lexus, Range Rover, Porsche (buyers of Panamera and Cayenne). Moreover, this also includes some Audi models (the CD/DVD player is even in the e-tron electric crossover), Mercedes and BMW. However, even such cars are gradually losing compact disc players: for example, if the previous generation BMW 7 had a disc slot, the new one no longer has it.
