However, a complete abandonment of gasoline and diesel engines is not planned in the near future. Volkswagen engineers plan to modernize existing engines to bring them in line with the new strict Euro-7 eco-standards, which will come into force in 2025.

Ralf Brandstätter confirmed that new generations of Volkswagen Golf, Passat, Tiguan and T-Roc will retain internal combustion engines. However, for the most part they will be plug-in hybrids.
At the same time, the profit from the sale of cars with gasoline and diesel engines will be directed to the development of new electric cars. By 2030, 70% of all Volkswagen vehicles produced will be electric vehicles.
Earlier, a similar statement was made by Audi management. The Volkswagen Group is gradually moving away from internal combustion engines and refocusing on electric cars. The plans include producing 1.5 million electric vehicles annually by 2025.
