58 automotive journalists from 23 countries took part in the voting, evaluating seven models that made it to the final list. The French hatchback Peugeot 208 scored 281 points and beat the electric Tesla Model 3 and Porsche Taycan, which got 242 and 222 points respectively.
The fourth place went to the compact Renault Clio with 211 points, followed by the small crossover Ford Puma. Next in the ranking were the Toyota Corolla and the third-generation BMW 1-Series, which closed out the top ten.
Last year, the electric SUV Jaguar I-Pace celebrated victory. Then, for the first time in the history of the competition, spanning more than five decades, the winner was determined only after a second round of voting: the Jaguar I-Pace and the French coupe Alpine A110 scored the same number of points — 250 each. In the additional vote, the British model received more votes.
