The manufacturer has confirmed at least one case of the vehicle catching fire due to this defect. In this regard, the company is announcing a recall of half a million vehicles, of which 490,574 units were sold on the American market, 56,112 in Canada, and 852 in Mexico.
The campaign will affect pickups manufactured from October 8, 2015, to October 29, 2019. When the seat belt pretensioner on the front passenger seat is activated, sparks may occur, which could lead to the ignition of the floor covering in the cabin.
It is proposed to fix the malfunction using foil - it should be used to cover the area near the central pillar to avoid contact with sparks.
Previously, this same model had already been subject to a recall campaign due to a manufacturing defect. At that time, it was found that on eight thousand pickups, the metal clamp of the fuel tank was not installed on the assembly line, which could cause damage to the tank, fuel leakage, and subsequent fire.
