French driver Romain Dumas, who previously set the best time in the hill climb to the summit of Pikes Peak in this car, will be behind the wheel of the electric sports car.

“First of all, we will adapt the aerodynamics of the I.D. R to the specifics of the Nürburgring, which differ greatly from the Pikes Peak track,” said François-Xavier Demaison, Technical Director of Volkswagen Motorsport.

The current record among electric vehicles is held by British driver Peter Dumbreck: in 2017, he completed a lap in the NIO EP9 in 6 minutes 45.9 seconds, with an average speed of about 185 km/h.

The Volkswagen I.D. R electric car debuted at a special show in France last year. The car is equipped with two electric motors that together produce 680 hp and 650 N·m of torque.
