The same production site assembles the new generation of 5-Series sedans and the flagship "seven". The "eight" became the first production model of the Bavarian brand whose roof is made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer. Later, the coupe on the assembly line will be joined by an open-top version and a four-door Gran Coupe variant.
Initially, the BMW 8-Series will be offered with a new 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 530 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. With this engine, the coupe accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. The lineup will also include a three-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine with 320 horsepower and 680 Nm, allowing a sprint to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
Sales of the revived BMW 8-Series in Europe are scheduled to start in November this year. The price of the coupe will be announced later.
